The Vice President for Strategic Affairs is responsible for providing leadership for Strategic Planning and the Council on VT History. In addition to her role as Vice President for Strategic Affairs she serves as Vice Provost for Inclusion and Diversity. Pratt-Clarke brings more than 20 years of administrative, academic, and legal experience to Virginia Tech. Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, she served as the Associate Chancellor for Strategic Affairs and Associate Provost for Diversity, advising the chancellor and provost on issues of diversity, governance, and strategic affairs at the University of Illinois since 2006, and was also an associate professor in the Department of Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership, and was affiliated with the university’s Institute for Government and Public Affairs, the Department of African-American Studies, the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies, the Center for African Studies, and the College of Law.  She also worked at Vanderbilt University for eight years as University Compliance Officer, Assistant Secretary of the University, and University Counsel. Pratt-Clarke received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Iowa, and a master’s degree, law degree, and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.  She taught at Vanderbilt University, Fisk University, and American Baptist College.

Responsibilities: Leads the University’s continuous strategic planning process; collaborates with colleges, institutes, offices, and units as they develop their respective strategic plans; develops, leads, and implements special projects expanding the impact and reach of Virginia Tech’s strategy through innovation and creativity.


Erin serves as the Director for Strategic Planning, leading the strategic planning process. Erin brings to Virginia Tech a plethora of experience in the corporate and higher education fields. Prior to her role at Virginia Tech, Erin was the Associate Director of Marketing for Academic Innovation at the University of Michigan. She has held marketing, technology, and innovation roles at start-ups and publicly traded companies, including Twitter and Google. McCann has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Responsibilities: Data Analysis and Continuous Strategic Planning Milestones Tracking; Engagements; Assisting the Office of Inclusion and Diversity with Unit Strategic Plan Alignment; Collaboration with various stakeholder groups; and project management

Patty serves as the Assistant Director for Strategic Planning. Prior to her role in Strategic Affairs, she was lead data warehouse manager for Business Intelligence Services (Enterprise Systems) at Virginia Tech. She has over 18 years of experience in Information Technology in many roles and holds a B.S. in Information Technology (Empire State College, N.Y.) and A.A.S in Computer Engineering (Onondaga Community College N.Y.).

Responsibilities: Communications and Marketing; Social Media; Website Management; Design

Meghan serves as the communications contact for the Office for Strategic Affairs. Prior to her role at Virginia Tech, Meghan worked in journalism and event production.  She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and a minor in Writing, Rhetoric, and Media Arts from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She spent a semester studying at the University of Edinburgh.

Responsibilities: Continuous Planning Resource Development, Unit Strategic Planning Support and Documentation, and Engagement Scheduling

Lauren serves as Program Coordinator to the strategic planning process through resource development and documentation as well as unit alignment and engagement support. She joins the team after a number of years in Continuing & Professional Education at Virginia Tech. Prior to working at Virginia Tech, Lauren held roles in non-profit arts administration and youth education to engage young audiences with creative perspectives and bridge diverse cultures across communities. Lauren is a proud alumna of Virginia Tech where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Master of Arts in Material Culture and Public Humanities.
